Age Friendly Conference – Let’s talk money
17th February 2022
The annual Age Friendly Conference, organised by Fermanagh and Omagh District Council, in partnership with South West Age Partnership, and funded by Department for Communities, Covid-19 Financial Inclusion Fund, will take place, virtually, commencing at 10.30 am on Wednesday 2 March 2022.
The event will take place via zoom with this year’s theme focussing on financial inclusion for older people.
A number of guest speakers will address the conference including Linda McAuley MBE, BBC Radio Ulster presenter of On Your Behalf and Margaret McCloskey from Money about Pensions Service (MAPS).
Chair of Fermanagh and Omagh District Council, Councillor Errol Thompson said
“Fermanagh and Omagh District Council is committed to working in partnership with other stakeholders to improve the lives of the people of the district and this year’s Age Friendly conference will provide money guidance and information for older people in the district around their finances. We are delighted once again to be working in partnership with the Public Health Agency who fund much of the Council’s work around Age Friendly and South West Age Partnership with whom the Council enjoys an excellent working relationship to deliver this year’s conference.
This conference is an important vehicle for older people to have their say and I am delighted that despite not being able to meet in person, we have still been able to host this conference albeit virtually thanks to the miracle of technology. It is my hope that next year we will be able to meet up in person for this every important event.
I believe that it is important that as the percentage of our retirement age population increases, more issues pertinent to their specific needs must be addressed and events such as this conference are a means of teasing out those issues and developing an interagency approach to tackle them.”
Marj Aitken Chair of South West Age Partnership “I am delighted that we have been able to work in partnership with Fermanagh and Omagh District Council again to deliver this conference despite the current restrictions. The pandemic has shown how resilient and adaptable older people are with many now experienced in online social engagement”.
Fermanagh and Omagh District Council is committed to establishing a District in which our older people can live active and engaged lives, making a valuable contribution to their communities, a commitment demonstrated by the fact that this is a core objective of the Fermanagh and Omagh Community Plan 2030. This objective which has been developed by the Council in partnership with other key statutory stakeholders, is targeted at helping older people to live more independent, engaged and socially connected lives.
A conference pack and refreshments will be provided to all participants and will be delivered by the Rural Transport Networks.
