Ellen Turvey August Winner

Ellen Turvey from Omagh is Fermanagh and Omagh District Council’s ‘Recycler of the Month’ winner for August.

The ‘Recycler of the Month’ competition rewards residents for their recycling efforts.

Each month staff from the Council’s waste and recycling service sample blue recycling bins in a different geographical location. Households that have placed the correct items in their blue recycling bin – clean, dry and loose – are then entered into a prize draw with a chance of winning £50 with one household selected per month.

Ellen’s blue bin was selected because it contained loose, dry recyclables such as paper, cardboard, aluminium and steel cans, plastic bottles and containers, aerosols and glass bottles and jars and contained nothing which would contaminate the load.

Congratulating Ms Turvey on her August ‘Recycler of the Month’, award, the Chair of Fermanagh and Omagh District Council, Councillor Siobhán Currie, said:

“Ellen is a great example of how to reduce the amount of waste sent to landfill by ensuring her blue recyclable waste bin is presented clean, dry and loose and free from contamination.I would encourage everyone to do their bit and recycle at every opportunity to help the Council to meet its recycling targets, and consequently enabling the Council to invest the money saved in other Council services and to protect and enhance our environment.”

The Council would urge the public to continue to recycle their food waste in their brown bins or caddies for collection and composting.

Inspections of blue recycling bins will continue to be carried out across the district by Council staff throughout the year. Those bins with the correct recyclables will get a yellow label with the householder having the chance to win £50 as part of Recycler of the Month.
