Autumn activities at the Cuilcagh Lakelands UNESCO Global Geopark

Cuilcagh Lakelands Geopark is committed to bringing people closer to their heritage and has a programme of events to suit all ages and interests!
Some of the highlights in our Autumn programme include:
Explore the Wildlife of Old Castle Archdale – Saturday 1 October 2022, 11am-1pm; and 2pm-4pm
Join Geopark guide Ian for a two hour walk to learn how to identify animal tracks and dens, along with learning about the wonderful animals that live in our Geopark. This family friendly event will take place in Old Castle Archdale.
Gentle Walk with Nature Arts and Crafts – Saturday 1 October, 11am-1pm
Join Geopark guide Bee for a mindful stroll at the beautiful Ely Lodge, then learn to weave with Nature led by Geopark guide Morag. This event is part of Positive Ageing Month.
Introduction to Bee Keeping with a Honey Tasting Experience – Tuesday 4 October, 7pm-9pm
Join Geopark Guide Kevin for a fascinating introduction to the world of bee keeping at Belcoo Community Centre.
This two-hour introduction is aimed at those who are interested in taking up the wonderful hobby of bee keeping. It includes a honey tasting experience of different local honeys and information on how honey can be presented. A packed couple of hours with the opportunity to ask those questions you always wondered.
Rock Detectives – Saturday 8 October, 11am-12.30pm; and 1.30pm-3pm, Cavan Burren Park
The Rock Detectives Workshop is sure to provide a jam-packed hour of activities with Geopark staff. Children will have the opportunity to participate in interactive hands on fun, where they will discover more about the rocks and landscape of the Geopark. Activities will include fossil making, creating a planet earth and a fossil hunt.
A previous participant said: “My son thoroughly enjoyed this mini rockers workshop. He learned new facts about fossils and loved the fossil hunt. His bag of workbooks have been poured over and will be enjoyed for days to come. Thank you both Martina & Melissa for facilitating this workshop. Geopark Foodie Tour – Saturday 8 October, 11am-4pm
First up, join Geopark staff and Shailagh Healy of Woodland Wonders for a Foraging experience in Killykeen Forest Park! Experience a unique guided plant and tree exploration within the fascinating grounds of Killykeen Forest Park. Unleash your inner forager and together we’ll identify plant and tree species, incorporate Irish botanical words, and learn about their Celtic mythology and the time-honoured uses associated with them. Whet your appetite by sampling the delicacies that the woodland has to offer and then settle in for a stunning three course meal at the award-winning Old Post Inn in Cloverhill. This is an event not to be missed!
Spooky Science Workshops at Belcoo and Cavan Burren Park, 28, 30 and 31 October, 10am-4pm
The Spooky Science Workshop is sure to provide a jam-packed hour of activities with Geopark staff. Children will have the opportunity to participate in interactive hands on activities, where they will make their own glow in the dark slime well as other spooky themed activities.
As it is Halloween, we expect to see everyone dressed up!
