Local businesses and individuals who would like to learn more about how to identify and address employment barriers to diversity and inclusion are set to benefit from the launch of a new initiative called the employer-led Disability Inclusion Programme.

Funded through the Department for Communities’ Labour Market Partnerships (LMPs), the programme is delivered by Fermanagh and Omagh Labour Market Partnership, in collaboration with the NOW Group. It is open to local residents who have a registered disability or health condition, be of working age from16 to 64 and not currently in employment.

The programme is designed for both groups to have a greater choice and control over opportunities that prepare them for or enable them to gain long-term, meaningful employment.

Councillor Barry McElduff, Chair of Fermanagh and Omagh District Council, said,

“The Council are delighted to be able to offer this programme to local residents who are seeking employment and have a disability or long term health condition.

In addition, we welcome employers to participate also, as it will help fill jobs by providing an understanding of disability in the workplace due to gaining increased knowledge and tips on becoming more inclusive in their employment processes.

I would encourage any residents with a registered disability or long term health condition and for local employers to avail of this excellent opportunity.”

Niamh Jones, Regional Manager SW at NOW Group comments:

“Our mission at the NOW Group is to make a real difference in the lives of those with learning difficulties and autism and to help them reach their full potential. By doing this, we contribute to a wider economy, and ensure that companies across Northern Ireland, have a pool of well-trained and talented individuals to recruit from.

Partnerships like these are truly life changing for not only our participants, but for businesses looking to become more inclusive in their employment processes. We look forward to welcoming local residents and businesses to this new programme”.
