Camphill Clanabogan exhibition unveiled at Strule Arts Centre for August Craft Month
5th August 2024
The Strule Arts Centre is celebrating August Craft Month with a showcase of crafts and artwork, completed by members of the Camphill Clanabogan community. The free exhibition, titled ‘Just us: A selection of craftwork by Camphill Clanabogan,’’ launched on Friday 1 August and runs until Saturday 31 August 2024.
August Craft Month is an annual initiative with over 400 events across the island of Ireland, aiming to raise awareness of the importance of craft in cultural and social progression. The Strule Arts Centre participates by promoting local crafters, artists and makers and providing a platform to showcase their talents.
This exhibition not only celebrates August Craft Month but also marks Camphill Clanabogan’s 40th anniversary. The pieces on display, which include woodwork, felted and woven pieces, photography and ceramics, share themes of belonging, community and being ‘‘Just Us.’’ The exhibition aligns with August Craft Month’s goal of raising awareness of the craft sector and engaging the public in appreciating handmade crafts.
Speaking at the launch, Chair of Fermanagh and Omagh District Council, Councillor John McClaughry said,
“I am delighted to welcome you all to the Strule Arts Centre, for the beginning of August craft month and to launch the ‘Just Us: A selection of craftwork by Camphill Clanabogan’ exhibition. Fermanagh and Omagh District Council is committed to promoting the arts and ensuring accessibility for all, a shared aim of August Craft Month.
Over the last 4 decades, Camphill Clanabogan has enriched the lives of those in its community, with an emphasis on creativity. Being able to showcase our creative talents is vital so it is great to have facilities in our district, like the Strule Arts Centre, that give opportunities to showcase the rich talent throughout Fermanagh and Omagh, as well as providing a venue for locals and visitors to experience, learn, and be inspired by arts.
I commend the artists and creators from Camphill Clanabogan for their excellent display of works and hope they are proud to see their pieces on display. I encourage everyone to come and view these fantastic pieces for themselves, it is certainly well worth a visit.”
