25th February 2022
The Chair of Fermanagh and Omagh District Council recently hosted a reception at the Ardhowen Theatre for representatives of Carrosyl Community Association to mark their 2oth anniversary.
Please see below, full text of the Chair’s address at the reception.
“Distinguished guests, ladies and gentlemen
It is my great pleasure, as Chair of Fermanagh and Omagh District Council to welcome you all to the Civic Offices of the Council at the Townhall, Enniskillen this evening.
I would like to extend a particularly warm welcome to you, the members of Carrosyl Community Association, in whose honour this evening’s reception is being hosted.
One of the more pleasant duties as Chair, is to host events such as this to mark landmark achievements and to recognise people who have made a significant difference to the lives of the communities in which they live. This evening, we are celebrating the contribution of the members, past and present of Carrosyl Community Association to the people of your community over the last 20 years.
The Community Association’s mission, is to improve the quality of life for all residents of Carrowshee Park and Sylvan Hill area and to make the area a better place to live by encouraging the active involvement from all members of the community without distinction of age, gender, race, political or religious opinion and you certainly have lived up to that ambition.
20 years is a long time to sustain any group and continue to make a positive difference to the lives of people in their communities and the members of Carrosyl Community Association have achieved that and continue to go from strength to strength.
Over the years you have been involved in a tremendous amount of activities covering the entire age spectrum from young people to the older generation, through classes the ever popular Youth Club. For young people the youth club provides an ideal setting for them to meet their friends in a positive environment and to socialise and participate in activities.
I understand that you have not rested on your laurels and plans are afoot for establishing a new community centre hopefully this year and I wish you every success with that.
Like most things, the onset of the Covid 19 pandemic has had a significant impact on how we live, work and socialise and Carrosyl Community Association has been no different. However, hopefully we are emerging from the pandemic and now look to have a semblance of normality as we move forward.
On behalf of Fermanagh and Omagh District Council, and on my own behalf, can I congratulate you on the last 20 years and wish you every success for the future.
