Council Chair congratulates Olympic Rugby player Claire Boles

7th August 2024

Former Enniskillen Rugby Football Club player, Claire Boles, made her debut as part of the Ireland Women’s Sevens squad at the Paris Olympic on Tuesday 30 July 2024.

Speaking about Claire’s achievement, Chair of Fermanagh and Omagh District Council, Councillor John McClaughry, said:

“On behalf of Fermanagh and Omagh District Council, and on my own behalf, I extend my congratulations to Claire on making her Olympic debut and scoring a try for the Ireland Women’s Sevens Team in Paris.  This was a fantastic achievement and Claire can be proud of her success.

Claire gained a keen interest in rugby and started playing at Enniskillen Royal Grammar School before joining Enniskillen Rugby Football Club.  Her talent was apparent early on and she deservedly earned call ups for both Ulster and Ireland.

Being part of the squad to help the Team automatically qualify for the Olympics, compete at the Games and score a try is a tremendous achievement and it is testament to Claire’s commitment to training and to the sport.

Claire has done herself, her family and friends, her county and her District proud and she is an excellent ambassador and an inspiration to other young rugby players in the District.  On behalf of everyone, I wish Claire every success for the future.”
