Errigal Ciaran Under 15 All Ireland Feile Winners (1)

Recently the Chair of Fermanagh and Omagh District Council, Councillor John McClaughry, hosted a reception for the Errigal Ciaran Under 15 Girls Team in recognition of becoming Féile Peile Na nÓg Champions 2024.

The following is the speech made by the Chair at the reception:

Good evening ladies and gentlemen

As Chair of Fermanagh and Omagh District Council, I am delighted to welcome you all here to Strule Arts Centre, Omagh for this reception in honour of Errigal Ciaran Under 15 Girls Team, the All Ireland Feile Champions 2024.

The Feile competition started with the Tyrone Feile where you had a strong win over Aghaloo O’Neill’s, followed by another win against Fintona Pearses.  This meant you needed a win over the hosts Trillick St Macartan’s to win the group and progress to the next stage.  You achieved this setting up a match against Clonroe O’Reilly’s who won their section.  You went on to win this match, earning your place at the All Ireland Feile.

The first match of the day was against Inniskeen and, despite being 8 points behind at half time, you came out string in the second half to score 1 goal and 6 points and win the match by one point.

The second game was against a team from Keady which you won by six points and you had a comfortable win over Glenariffe Oisin GFC in the last group game winning by 12 points.

In the final your opponents were Inniskeen and, like your first game, it was another close match.  However, you kept your cool and showed great talent and teamwork to win by two points and take the title of All Ireland Feile Under 15 Champions.

The 29 June 2024 will be a date you will all remember for many years to come as this was the first time for you and the club to enjoy this outstanding success.

The Feile is about encouraging participation and inclusion in the sport as well as providing you with the opportunity to compete against other Clubs, Counties and Provinces.  This is important as it combines the key elements of competition and fun.

Being part of a sports team not only promotes positive physical and mental wellbeing but it also encourages you to become a better team player and listener, build resilience and value the contribution that each player brings to the team.  Every player brings something different and when you combine these you build a strong team that can enjoy success.

I would like to commend the Coaches, Management and Backroom Team for all your work and for sharing your knowledge and experience to enable the girls to compete at the highest level and enjoy success.

I would also like to commend each and every player in the Team for the part you played in bringing the All Ireland Feile title back to Errigal Ciaran.  You have all shown great talent and dedication to training and on the field which is not easy as you have other competing personal and school demands.

On behalf of Fermanagh and Omagh District Council, and on my own behalf, I would like to congratulate everyone at Errigal Ciaran on your All Ireland Feile success and I wish you every success for the years ahead.  I am confident that there will be future Senior Club and County players amongst the team.

Thank you.
