Council launches a consultation for “Pathways out of Poverty”

Fermanagh and Omagh District Council has developed a draft 10-year anti-poverty strategy for the district, “Pathways out of Poverty” in partnership with a number of local statutory, community and voluntary sector organisations.

The Council are inviting local people to take part in the consultation process, which will remain open until Monday 30 September 2024.

The strategy aims to improve the lives and wellbeing of residents in Fermanagh and Omagh by supporting people who are experiencing poverty and working with communities to reduce and prevent poverty.

Chair of Fermanagh and Omagh District Council, Councillor John Mc Claughry attended the launch and commented,

“Given the significant impact of poverty on so many people in our district, the Council is committed to taking steps to tackle poverty and disadvantage.

The ongoing cost-of-living crisis continues to impact many individuals in our district. While many drivers of poverty fall outside the remit of local government, Fermanagh and Omagh District Council is committed to working with our partners to make the most of the resources available to address poverty and disadvantage.’

Paul Kellagher Children’s Services Manager Action for Children noted,

“I welcome the publication of a draft anti-poverty strategy and public consultation by Fermanagh Omagh District Council. At Action for Children, we see the impact of poverty on children and families daily and the long-term impacts it has on our whole community.

We have worked closely with Council officers over the last few years to collectively respond to local need as best we can. Whilst there is a longstanding need for a robust anti-poverty strategy from the NI Executive, the launch of this consultation is a clear example of local action to support our community.”

The consultation is open until Monday 30 September 2024 and can be completed online on the Council website available at https://www.fermanaghomagh.com/your-council/consultations/
