Council launches public consultation on Disability and Equality Action Plans

Fermanagh and Omagh District Council has launched a public consultation to invite Members of the public to have their say on its draft Disability Action Plan and Equality Action Plan.
The plans set out how the Council will make services more accessible for residents and visitors over the next three years. The actions we set out will help to ensure that the Council is compliant with legislation (Section 75 of the Northern Ireland Act 1998 and Section 49A of the Disability Discrimination Act 1995).
The public consultation will be open from 10am on Friday 10 January 2025 until 5pm on Friday 28 February 2025.
Feedback on the plans can be provided via the following methods:
- Drop-in sessions on
- Tuesday 28 January 2025, 12 Noon – 1pm, at County Buildings Enniskillen
- Tuesday 4 February 2025, 12 Noon – 1pm, at Strule House, Omagh
- Online session on Wednesday 19 February 2025 at 5pm. Register online
- Complete and submit a feedback survey available on the Consultation section of the Council website
Launching the Consultation Chair of Fermanagh and Omagh District Council, Councillor John McClaughry, said:
“I would encourage everyone to have their say on both of these key plans. The plans will help us to deliver the Council’s commitment to equality, as stated in the Corporate Plan 2024-2028:
‘Beyond a duty of compliance with our equality scheme, we aim to mainstream the promotion of equality of opportunity and good relations throughout the organisation, actively seeking out ways in which to enhance those opportunities and to build positive relations between and among the many diverse communities across our region’.”
The Disability Action Plan is built on six themes of Accessibility of Services; Inclusive Consultation and Engagement; Inclusive Programmes and Projects; Awareness Raising and Capacity Building; Diversity in the Workplace; and Implementation, Review and Screening.
The Equality Action Plan is built on four priorities of Community and Wellbeing; Employment; Council Services; and Staff Development and Internal Resources.
Both plans will commence in April 2025, subject to approval, and delivery will be ongoing until March 2028. Progress against the agreed actions will be reported annually to the Equality Commission for Northern Ireland.
