Fermanagh and Omagh District Council is supporting the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence campaign which takes place from 25 November to 10 December 2024.

The global campaign, which takes place annually, begins on the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women and continues to Human Rights Day on 10 December 2024.

During the 16 days of the campaign, the Council will be highlighting relevant information and details of support available as well as sharing messages from various organisations on its social media channels.

The Council will also be illuminating Enniskillen Castle and Strule Arts Centre, Omagh in purple to raise awareness of the campaign and that gender-based violence is unacceptable so that everyone can live without fear.

Fermanagh and Omagh District Council Policing and Community Safety Partnership is also organising a range of events including Breakfast events in Enniskillen and Omagh in relation to supporting victims of domestic violence and the Domestic Abuse (Safe Leave) Act (NI) 2022.  An exhibition entitled ‘Souls of our Shoes’ which is being organised in collaboration with Clogher Mothers’ Union, will be on display in Enniskillen Library from 23 November to 07 December 2024.

Recently, the Council has responded, on behalf of Fermanagh and Omagh residents, to five central government consultations in relation to domestic abuse and gender-based violence to lend its support and lobby for action to be taken to help bring an end to such violence and ensure anyone affected has access to the necessary support to live safely and free of fear.
