Fermanagh and Omagh District Council marked the official reopening of Lisnaskea Household Recycling Centre recently, following significant improvement works that will support more and better recycling.

The £1.1m redevelopment project has resulted in increased storage capacity and better separation and sorting of recyclable materials and also contribute directly and indirectly to reduced carbon emissions and the Council’s ambition of a net zero District by 2042.

A key objective of the site improvements works was to improve the health, safety and wellbeing of staff and the public using the facility. The new one-way system, better signage and enhanced separation/sorting infrastructure will help to deliver against that objective.

Speaking about the improvement works, Chair of Fermanagh and Omagh District Council, Councillor Thomas O’Reilly, said:

“I am delighted that Lisnaskea Household Recycling Centre has reopened following significant improvement works and I would like to thank the residents in the area for their patience and understanding during the closure period to enable the works to be completed.

It is important that the Council invests in its recycling facilities to ensure appropriate facilities are available and accessible for residents to help to encourage recycling and improve our recycling rates.

The Council is working towards the ambitious recycling targets set by the Department of Agriculture, Environment and Rural Affairs, and within the 2022 Climate Act, but we can only do that if we all play our part and recycle right.”

The Council is committed to protecting the environment and mitigating the impacts of Climate Change, as outlined in its Climate Change and Sustainable Development Action Plan. Better and more recycling ensures that less waste is sent to landfill or other recovery processes. Recycling, re-use and reduced consumption all have a role to play in the journey to a circular economy.

The opening hours for Lisnaskea Household Recycling Centre will be Monday and Wednesday to Friday 10.00 am to 5.45 pm and Saturday 10.00 am – 5.15 pm. The site will be closed on Tuesday.
