Council to consider draft budget and District Rate at Special Council meeting
9th February 2022
A special meeting of Fermanagh and Omagh District Council will take place virtually on Monday 14 February 2022 at 7.00 pm to agree the Council budget and to strike the District Rate for the Fermanagh and Omagh district for 2022-2023.
The meeting which will be live streamed on Fermanagh and Omagh District Council’s youtube channel, will be available to view by the public.
The District Rate is set by the Council annually to fund local Council services and investment in infrastructure to improve the wellbeing of the Fermanagh and Omagh district, its residents and ratepayers.
The Council is embarking on an ambitious capital programme which will see a total investment across the district in excess of £100 million. This will be delivered due to prudent financial management over previous years which have established capital funds for investment, a proactive approach to seeking grant support and other future financing arrangements.
Supporting local communities and local businesses through the provision of financial schemes and other practical assistance has been and will remain a key objective of the Council.
As well as inflationary pressures, like many other organisations, the Council’s income streams still haven’t returned to pre-Covid levels and some costs associated with the delivery of other services, such as waste and recycling, have increased due to arrangements required to ensure Covid secure service delivery arrangements.
Fermanagh and Omagh District Council will continue to make use of available financial reserves so that key services and projects can be delivered at an affordable level. This will in turn minimise the impact of the District Rate on ratepayers in the current challenging financial climate in the coming year with the aim of ensuring any rate increases are well below current inflation rates.
The draft budget has been developed following extensive financial planning by Council Members and Officers with all relevant factors taken into consideration to ensure that adequate financial resource is available to meet Council priorities linked to the Fermanagh and Omagh Community Plan 2030 and the Council’s Corporate Plan 2020-2024, and will be presented for consideration at the Special Council Meeting.
