Councillor McClaughry nominated as Chair of Fermanagh and Omagh District Council

Fermanagh and Omagh District Council held its Annual Meeting in The Townhall, Enniskillen on Monday 03 June 2024 with Councillor John McClaughry, Ulster Unionist Party, nominated as Council Chair for 2024-25. Councillor Elaine Brough, Sinn Féin was nominated as Vice Chair for the incoming year.
In accepting the position, Councillor McClaughry said:
“I am honoured to be given the opportunity to be Chair of the Council and I would like to thank my Party for nominating me.
It is also an honour for my family as I am following in the footsteps of my father who was one of the longest serving Chairs on the legacy Fermanagh District Council.
During my term in office, I hope to continue to focus on our local economy and business sector, seek clarification in relation to the status of the South West Acute Hospital, seek to address the challenges posed by the ongoing cost of living crisis and build on the partnership with Huangshi.
I would like to congratulate the outgoing Chair, Councillor Thomas O’Reilly, and Vice Chair, Councillor AnnMarie Donnelly, for all the work over the last year.”
The nomination of Committee Chairs for 2024-25 also took place at the Annual Meeting with the following Councillors being nominated:
Environmental Services – Councillor Garbhan McPhillips
Regeneration and Community – Councillor Stephen Donnelly
Policy and Resources – Councillor Victor Warrington
Planning – Councillor Tommy Maguire
Members agreed to continue on the basis of 17 Members for the Standing Committees and the membership remains unchanged for the 2024-25 year.
Nominations to all positions of responsibility and Committees is based on d’Hondt and agreed at the Annual Meeting in 2023.
The first Council meeting of the 2024-25 term took place on Tuesday 04 June 2024 at 7pm.
