Agricultural Liaison Group visit to Strathroy Dairy (September 2024)

Fermanagh and Omagh District Council’s Agricultural Liaison Group recently undertook a research visit to Strathroy Dairy to consider the work on adaption to alternative energies.

Strathroy Dairy is one of Ireland’s longest established and trusted dairies. Over many years they have built there reputation based on the fresh, high quality milk and dairy produce which they supply to customers throughout Ireland.

The delegation were taken on a tour across the plant and were able to see and understand how the process worked from milk entering the dairy from the farms, through the pasteurising and sterilising processes, to packaging and shipping. There was an opportunity to gain an understanding of other elements of the plant including powdered milk, anaerobic digesters, using recycled material for milk bottles and the impact of the new tethered bottle top lids.

At the close of the visit, Chair of Fermanagh and Omagh District Council, Councillor John McClaughry thanked the team at Strathroy for hosting the delegation and the constructive discussions held.

He highlighted that the visit was an opportunity for Members to better understand emerging alternative energies and to link these innovations to the type of farming within the Fermanagh and Omagh District Council area.
