Fermanagh and Omagh District Council in partnership with Disability Sport Northern Ireland (DSNI) as part of its Inclusive Leisure programme has organised a ‘Disability Swimming Club’ which will commence at Fermanagh Lakeland Forum, Enniskillen on Monday 17 September 2018 at 6pm.

The programme is targeted at young people with a disability between the ages of 8 – 17 years who are able to swim 200 metres. The sessions, which will be led by fully qualified coaches, will enable participants to further improve their swimming skills. Each session will last for approx. 45 minutes and costs £2.60 per session payable at the Fermanagh Lakeland Forum reception.

Speaking about the forthcoming programme, the Chairman of Fermanagh and Omagh District Council, Councillor Howard Thornton, said;

“One of the key themes of the Fermanagh and Omagh 2030 Community Plan is to ensure the physical, mental and emotional well-being of everyone in the district. Inclusivity is at the heart of that theme. Through working in partnership with Disability Sport Northern Ireland, Fermanagh and Omagh District Council is delighted to launch the Disability Swimming Club at the Fermanagh Lakeland Forum, Enniskillen which has also recently just had a Poolpod installed to increase accessibility for those with limited mobility which was funded through the Department for Communities (DfC) through Sport Northern Ireland and delivered in partnership with Disability Sport Northern Ireland. I would encourage potential participants to avail of this opportunity to improve their swimming skills under the tuition of fully qualified instructors”

Kevin O’Neill, Chief Executive of Disability Sport NI comments;

“Fermanagh and Omagh District Council has always been very proactive in offering sports opportunities for people with a disability. This great initiative follows soon after their recent funding for a Poolpod to offer better access to the pool for people with a disability. It will be great to see it utilised and we look forward to supporting the council with the club.”

Registration for Monday 17 September 2018 is now available by contacting Fermanagh Lakeland Forum directly on 028 66 324 121.
