Fermanagh and Omagh District Council Launches Public Consultation on its Draft Heritage Plan 2025-2030

Fermanagh and Omagh District Council is inviting residents, community groups, and stakeholders to participate in a public consultation on its Draft Heritage Plan 2025-2030.

The 12-week consultation is now open and will run until Monday 14 April 2025, offering the public an opportunity to help shape the Council’s strategic approach to preserving, promoting, and celebrating cultural, natural, and built heritage.
The Draft Heritage Plan 2025-2030 has been developed in partnership key stakeholders and in alignment with the Council’s broader priorities and strategies. The plan outlines three core strands: Cultural Heritage, Natural Heritage, and Built Heritage, with an emphasis on collaboration, sustainability, and community engagement.

Speaking about the Draft Heritage Plan, Chair of Fermanagh and Omagh District Council, Councillor McClaughry, said:
“Heritage plays a vital role in fostering a shared sense of identity and pride across our District. The Draft Heritage Plan 2025–2030 outlines how the Council aims to preserve and promote its rich cultural and natural assets for the benefit of all.
I encourage everyone to take part in the consultation to help ensure that the final plan reflects the needs and aspirations of our community. Public input is essential to making this plan as informed and inclusive as possible.”

How to Take Part in the Consultation

There are a number of ways to engage in the consultation:

Complete an online survey – visit the Consultation Section on the Fermanagh & Omagh District Council website at www.fermanaghomagh.com

Complete a paper copy survey – available from Connect Centres in Enniskillen and Omagh
Attend a drop-in session – From 6pm – 8.30pm on the following dates;

4 March 2025 – Enniskillen Castle Enniskillen

6 March 2025 – Castle Park Centre, Lisnaskea

11th March 2025 – The Patrician Hall, Carrickmore

20th March 2025 – The Bawnacre, Irvinestown

25th March 2025 – The Village Table, Dromore

27th March 2025 – Strule Arts Centre, Omagh

2nd April 2025 – The Ecclesville Centre, Fintona

The consultation will ensure that the Council captures a broad range of views, including those from rural and underrepresented communities. The Council remains committed to working in partnership with local groups and stakeholders to deliver a comprehensive and sustainable heritage plan.
