Fermanagh and Omagh District Council to Illuminate Enniskillen Castle and Strule Arts Centre for Charitable Causes Throughout September

Fermanagh and Omagh District Council will light up Enniskillen Castle and the Strule Arts Centre, Omagh on various dates in September to support and raise awareness for a number of important charitable causes.

On September 1st, to mark the beginning of Blood Cancer Awareness Month, Enniskillen Castle and the Strule Arts Centre will be lit up in red. This initiative aims to raise public awareness and understanding of blood cancers. The year 2024 marks the 60th anniversary of Leukemia and Lymphoma NI, celebrating six decades of funding critical blood cancer research.

To mark the inaugural Fermanagh Pride, both Enniskillen Castle and the Strule Arts Centre will be illuminated in pink on September 7th. On September 9th, the buildings will light up in red, to support Air Ambulance Week. This national event highlights the lifesaving work of Air Ambulance charities across the UK.

In observance of the International Day of Peace, buildings will be illuminated in blue on September 21st. Established by the United Nations General Assembly in 1981, this day is dedicated to promoting non-violence and peace. The theme for this year is “Cultivating a Culture of Peace.” This year also marks the 45th anniversary of Omagh Inner Wheel and the centenary of Inner Wheel GB and Ireland.

Organ Donation Week runs from September 23rd to 29th, the council will light up both Enniskillen Castle and the Strule Arts Centre pink, on September 23rd to promote the importance of organ donation.

For Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the council will illuminate Enniskillen Castle and the Strule Arts Centre in pink on September 30th. This effort aims to raise awareness of breast cancer and the illumination also serves as a prelude to the upcoming Cancer Focus NI Therapeutic Cancer Support Centre, set to open in Enniskillen in late 2024 or early 2025.
