28th May 2024
Fermanagh and Omagh Policing & Community Safety Partnership (PCSP) successfully organised a thrilling range of displays and family fun activities at Emergency Services Day 2024. Hundreds of adults and children arrived at Broadmeadow, Enniskillen on Sunday 26th May 2024 to watch the live interactive entertainment, which showcased the work of Fermanagh and Omagh Emergency Services.
Hosted by BBC Presenter, Barra Best, the event provided rescue and investigative demonstrations, opportunities to step inside ambulance, fire and police service vehicles, helicopter landings, and much more.
Expressing the importance of Emergency Services Day and gratitude to all those involved, Chair of Fermanagh and Omagh PCSP, Cllr Tommy Maguire, said,
“I am delighted that Fermanagh & Omagh PCSP once again hosted Emergency Services Day and showcased the amazing work of our local volunteers & Emergency Services through interactive displays. We aim to provide the public with the opportunity to see first-hand and say thank you to the Emergency Services for the invaluable work that they do to keep communities safe and their rapid responses in emergency situations.
I would like to take this opportunity to say thank you to the Emergency Services for all their work in Fermanagh and Omagh and for the range of very realistic displays and safety messages they demonstrated to us all on Sunday.
Finally, I’d like to thank Barra Best for keeping the crowds entertained and engaged throughout all the live demonstrations.”
To help the public understand the work that the Emergency Services carry out on a daily basis, there were informative demonstrations from seven emergency service providers, including the Erne Coastguard Rescue Team, Northern Ireland Ambulance Service (NIAS), Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service (NIFRS), Northern Ireland Prison Service (NIPS), North West Mountain Rescue Team (NWMRT), Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI), Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI).
Enniskillen Airport also assisted with the demonstrations, providing part of an aircraft which was a vital component of the burning aircraft rescue operation.
Throughout the afternoon, these organisations entertained and informed the public with action and sound from a crash car simulator, a prison service van, a breathtaking water rescue scenario, an impressive performance from the PSNI dogs’ team and finally two back-to-back helicopter landings from the Coastguard and the PSNI.
In between the live demonstrations everyone enjoyed the refreshments from the array of food vendors, as well as speaking to emergency service providers and the free kid’s zone.
