ABIS 2025 Marble Arch Caves

The Marble Arch Caves recently welcomed the Association of British and Irish Showcaves (ABIS) for their annual conference, bringing together leading showcave experts from across the UK and Ireland to discuss conservation, sustainability, and innovative cave management strategies.

Delegates from over 12 showcave attractions attended the event, exploring the world-famous Marble Arch Cave system and gaining insight into its latest conservation projects, visitor experience enhancements, and sustainability initiatives. The conference also showcased Fermanagh’s rich cultural and tourism offering within the Cuilcagh Lakelands Geopark, with attendees visiting Enniskillen Castle, The Boatyard Distillery, Erne Water Taxi, and Tully Mill Restaurant—experiencing the region’s heritage, hospitality, and breathtaking natural landscapes.

Welcoming the Association, Chair of Fermanagh and Omagh District Council, Councillor John McClaughry, emphasised the shared commitment to conservation and sustainable tourism:

“The mission of the Association of British and Irish Showcaves is not only to protect and preserve the underground world but also to create an engaging and memorable experience for visitors. This closely aligns with Fermanagh and Omagh District Council’s priority to safeguard and promote the rich natural, built, and cultural heritage of our district.

The Marble Arch Caves, as one of our most unique natural assets, greatly benefit from the support and collaboration fostered by the Association. Events like this strengthen industry connections, inspire innovation, and reinforce the vital importance of conservation.”

As the Marble Arch Caves approaches its 40th anniversary, it remains dedicated to sustainable tourism and environmental stewardship, ensuring this natural wonder is preserved for future generations.
