Minister for the Economy meets with the Council to discuss tourism and economic development

The recently appointed Minister for the Economy, Dr Caoimhe Archibald, met with the Fermanagh and Omagh District Council to discuss important tourism and economic development initiatives within the District.
The meeting took place in The Townhall, Enniskillen on Wednesday 26 February 2025, the day before the Council hosted its Tourism Conference at which the Minister was a Guest Speaker.
Welcoming the positive and constructive engagement with the Minister, the Members were pleased to receive reassurances from the Minister regarding a commitment to ongoing cooperation to continue to embed regional balance; seek additional industrial land, particularly in the Omagh area of the District; and that further work will be progressed on the approach to funding allocation. .
Members also welcomed the reassurance that tourism actions could be included within the work of the Local Economic Partnerships.
Speaking about the meeting with Minister Archibald, Chair of Fermanagh and Omagh District Council, Councillor John McClaughry, said:“Fermanagh and Omagh has much to be proud of with the wealth of tourism offerings, stunning natural landscapes and the strength and resilience and highly entrepreneurial business base.
As a Council, it was important to highlight the work which is being progressed within the District to enhance the local economy and also seek reassurance that the longstanding infrastructure deficit and regional imbalance would be addressed for the benefit of businesses and the wider District.”
The Council will continue to lobby and engage with Ministers to ensure the necessary support and investment is made available to the Fermanagh and Omagh District Council area.
