Neurodiversity awareness training for community and voluntary organisations
31st January 2024
Fermanagh and Omagh District Council is running virtual Neurodiversity Awareness Training for community and voluntary organisations across the district.
Funded by the Public Health Agency (PHA), the Neurodiversity Awareness Training will be delivered online via Zoom over two evenings on Thursday 1 February and Tuesday 6 February. It aims to provide staff and volunteers from community and voluntary organisations with an opportunity to learn more about neurodiverse conditions and how to adjust events and activities to support individuals with neurodiversity.
The training will also focus on a number of good practice examples, including how other organisations have made changes to make services more accessible.
Launching the training workshop, Chair of Fermanagh and Omagh District Council, Cllr Thomas O’ Reilly said,
“The Council is committed to making the district more inclusive for people with various disabilities.
It is important that we consider how we can make adjustments to enable people with neurodiverse conditions to have accessibility to a range of services. By doing so, we hope more individuals and families will be able to take part in a range of activities and events to support socialisation and help improve their physical and mental health and wellbeing.
I encourage anyone who delivers community or sporting activities in the community to sign up for this training.”
The training will take place at 6.30pm to 8.00pm on Thursday 1 February and Tuesday 6 February. Participants must attend both sessions.
Spaces are limited and will be allocated on a first-come-first-served basis. To ensure different groups benefit from the training, each organisation will only be able to apply for one space.
