Omagh Leisure Complex celebrates 40th birthday
29th March 2022
Omagh Leisure Complex, one of Fermanagh and Omagh District Council’s flagship leisure venues, celebrates its 40th anniversary this month.
Omagh Leisure Centre as it was then, first opened its doors on 18 March 1982 and has been serving the people of the district as a leisure facility across 5 decades.
Over the years, Omagh Leisure Complex has evolved and transformed into a state of the art complex, commensurate with the needs of leisure and sporting requirements in the 21st century. The addition of the major hall, the DEC and the reimaging of the pool deck and health suite have greatly enhanced the versatility and appeal of the venue.
Over the years, it has served not only as a leisure facility but also as a concert venue and a venue to facilitate the democratic process. Well known entertainers such as Westlife, Patrick Kielty, Morrisey and the RTE Concert Orchestra have all taken the stage at Omagh Leisure Complex
Chair of Fermanagh and Omagh District Council, Councillor Errol Thompson said;
Fermanagh and Omagh District Council is immensely proud of Omagh Leisure Complex and its ability to evolve to meet the changing leisure requirements of the people of the district. The Council is committed to ensuring that our facilities and activities are as inclusive as possible and the facilities at Omagh Leisure Complex embrace that objective with it becoming a disability hub in the last few years, the addition of a pool pod for ease of access and inclusive bikes.
I would like to extend my gratitude to the staff both past and present, who have played a significant role in the development of Omagh leisure Complex and I look forward to many more years serving the people of the district.”
To celebrate the landmark occasion, there will be a day of celebration on
Saturday 2 April 2022 with loads of special offers, spot prizes and more. Come along and join the staff of Omagh Leisure Complex for a day of fun and celebration.
