All roads led to Omagh for the annual NI Primary School Road Safety Quiz. Supported by the Fermanagh & Omagh Policing Community Safety Partnership (PCSP), this long-running event has been a staple for over 30 years, growing each year thanks to the dedication of event organiser Road Safe NI Charity. Their unwavering commitment to road safety education continues to inspire young minds and reinforce the importance of road awareness among students.
Enthusiastic P7 pupils from schools across the region tested their road safety knowledge and general awareness in a fun and interactive way. Each participating school entered a team of four pupils who competed in a challenging table quiz designed to reinforce essential road safety education while promoting teamwork and learning.
The quiz consisted of seven rounds of eight questions, covering both road safety and general knowledge, with a special round focused on road signs. As the event concluded, the champions of the day Kesh Primary School and runners up Maguiresbridge PS secured their place in the Northern Ireland Final in Cookstown on Monday, 4th March 2025. McClintock PS, Seskinore came in third place.
Davy Jackson, Chairperson of Road Safe NI Charity, shared his enthusiasm for this year’s event saying,
“We are thrilled with the continued success of the annual Primary School Road Safety Quiz. This year saw the largest entry to date, with 205 schools registered across 11 heats. The final will bring together two teams from each heat, all competing to be crowned NI champions at the Glenavon Hotel on Monday, 10th March.”
PCSP Chairperson, Councillor Roy Crawford, highlighted the importance of initiatives like this in promoting road safety from an early age and said
“Educating our young people about road safety in an engaging and interactive way is essential in helping to keep them safe. This event not only reinforces vital road safety messages but also encourages teamwork and learning in a fun environment. We are proud to support Road Safe NI Charity in this fantastic initiative, and I commend all the pupils and schools for their enthusiasm and participation.
Fermanagh & Omagh PCSP, along with Road Safe NI Charity, extends its gratitude to all participating schools, teachers, and pupils for their dedication to road safety education. Special thanks also go to local PSNI Officers and the Northern Ireland Fire & Rescue Service, whose support helped make this year’s event a resounding success.”
