Enniskillen Castle recently hosted the launch of ‘Catharsis’ , an inspiring solo exhibition by Fermanagh – based artist Scott Ramsey. This event celebrated Ramseys distinctive artistic vision, which brings new life to discarded objects by transforming them into intricate boxed assemblages. The exhibition is rooted in the concept of emotional expression through art and invites viewers to explore the extraordinary within the ordinary. Officially opened by Chair of Fermanagh and Omagh District Council, Councillor John McCalughry, the evening also featured remarks from curator and guest speaker Noelle McAlinden, a esteemed creative advisor and advocate for mental health through the arts.

Ramsey, a multi-talented artist who is also an accomplished musician and songwriter, performed live at the event, further showcasing his creative versatility. His work has gained recognition both locally and nationally, appearing in public and private collections as well as prestigious exhibitions, including the Royal Ulster Academy.

The exhibition title, ‘Catharsis’, reflects the essence of Ramseys creative process – art as a means of releasing and processing strong emotions. Each assemblage on display draws viewer into the artists imagination, where seemingly ordinary, discarded items are meticulously reimagined into crafted works of art.

Chair of Fermanagh & Omagh District Council, Councillor John McClaughry said,

‘Fermanagh and Omagh District Council is committed to supporting local artists and promoting access to the arts for all. Having venues such as this in Enniskillen Castle enables us to achieve this by hosting exhibition such as this for local artists to display their works and for residents and visitors alike to enjoy.

I would like to commend Scott on this excellent exhibition. I would encourage you all to tell your family and friends to come along and view it while it is on display here in Enniskillen Castle.’

Scott Ramsey, stated after the opening launch:

“I’m very happy to be exhibiting at the Enniskillen Castle Museum, particularly because it is based in my hometown. I would have quite a wide following of people from Fermanagh who will be keen to view latest body of work. I am delighted so many people came to the launch.

I’m looking forward to seeing other people’s opinions & reactions to my pieces of art. As an artist I have always had an inner need to express my thoughts and emotions ever since childhood. Thank you to Noelle McAlinden and to Enniskillen Castle Museums for hosting it.”

The exhibition is on show until 22 February 2025. Many of the works in the exhibition are for sale. Please note that Enniskillen Castle will be closed over the Christmas break from Monday, 23 December, reopening in the New Year on 2 January 2025.
