Statement by Chair of Fermanagh and Omagh District Council

Following the shooting of police officer, John Caldwell in Killyclogher, Omagh last night, the Chair of Fermanagh and Omagh District Council said:

“I am greatly shocked at the news of a police officer being shot in the Killyclogher, Omagh area on Wednesday 22 February 2023.

‘’This was a heinous act, totally wrong, and as Chair of Fermanagh and Omagh District Council, I condemn this action without reservation.

My thoughts in the immediate aftermath of this shooting are with the victim of this incident and his family.

My thoughts are also with the children and young people who were at the venue and witnessed this incident.

I have been in contact with the Western Health and Social Care Trust and I am reassured that their Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service (CAMHS) Team will be proactive and available to support any child or young person who has experienced trauma as a result of witnessing this incident.”
