Statement in relation to planned day of industrial action on 18 January 2024
17th January 2024
Last updated 18 January 2024, 12.45pm
The Local Government sector is not participating in the planned day of industrial action by the public sector on Thursday 18 January 2024.
Fermanagh and Omagh District Council services and facilities are scheduled to operate as normal on Thursday 18 January 2024, however it is possible that industrial action by central government departments, such as disruption to the road gritting service within the Department for Infrastructure, may have an impact on the delivery of Council services such as refuse collections.
The Department for Infrastructure is advising people not to travel unless essential, on Thursday 18 January 2024, due to a yellow weather warning for snow and ice and disruption to the road gritting service. Where travel is necessary, the Department advises people should take extra care on Thursday and Friday due to the potential for icy conditions and ongoing disruption. In light of this, the Council has taken the decision to postpone:
- the Community Funding and Advice Fair at Omagh Leisure Complex on 18 January 2024 to 13 February 2024.
- the Fermanagh and Omagh Labour Market Partnership ‘Tech for the Future’ event at Omagh Leisure Complex on Friday 19 January 2024. A new date will be communicated in due course.
The Irish language class on 18 January 2024 at Enniskillen Castle is cancelled.
We apologise for any inconvenience caused.
Updates in relation to any disruption to Council services will be provided on the Council website and social media accounts as soon as possible, however this may not be until Thursday 18 January 2024, when the full impact of industrial action and weather conditions are known.
