The Marble Arch Caves and Cuilcagh Lakelands Geopark team are inviting members of the local community to join them for a Volunteer Community Litter Pick which is taking place on the iconic Cuilcagh Mountain on Saturday 7th May from 10:00am – 1:00pm.

Cuilcagh Mountain is a striking feature on the Fermanagh landscape, it’s distinctive tabletop plateau sits at an elevation of 665 metres, with the summit straddling the border with Co Cavan. The mountain is a Special Area of Conservation and is recognised on a global scale for its pristine blanket bog, distinctive geology, and rare biodiversity.

Home to the Cuilcagh Boardwalk Trail, often referred to as the “Stairway to Heaven”, the area is a hive of activity attracting locals and tourists alike to hike the mountain and experience its remoteness and beauty for themselves.

Councillor Errol Thompson, Chair of Fermanagh and Omagh District Council said:

“Cuilcagh mountain and its environs encapsulates the beauty of the Fermanagh landscape and is part of our district’s stunning natural environment.  Through this initiative we hope to raise awareness of the principles of ‘Leave No Trace’ and highlight the damage that littering can do to our wildlife and to our natural resources.  All help will be much appreciated, and your support will help preserve this stunning mountain for locals and visitors alike. By participating in the litter pick, you will not only be contributing to the protection of wildlife on Cuilcagh but you will also have the opportunity to hear stories and share your own stories of this special and magical place. ‘’
