Young people encouraged to attend Tech for the Future event

Fermanagh and Omagh Labour Market Partnership is inviting students and young people aged 13-18 years to a ‘Tech for the Future’ event in Omagh Leisure Complex on Friday 19 January 2024, from 9:30am – 12:30pm.
Fermanagh and Omagh Labour Market Partnership, in partnership with Bring I.T. On, will bring together local employers, training providers and careers advisors to demonstrate the wealth of IT and Tech roles available within the Fermanagh and Omagh area.
Labour Market Partnerships, which create targeted employment action plans for council areas, are funded by the Department for Communities, and allow for collaboration at local and regional level to support people towards and into work.
Students will benefit by hearing directly from local businesses who will explain how IT shapes our daily lives, the tech careers of the future including the skills required, practical tips on how to secure a career in IT and the benefits of working in IT.
Speaking about the event, Chair of Fermanagh and Omagh District Council, Councillor Thomas O’Reilly, said:
“Technology is everywhere and businesses and organisations of all sizes and across all sectors are embracing it. Whether you want to work in architecture, design, engineering, or even within the financial or health services, these careers have been facilitated by technological advancements.
Local businesses hope to inspire the next generation of talent into studying STEM subjects and aspire to a tech career in the future. Attendees will have the opportunity to speak to local companies about potential career paths and test out some of their equipment.
I would encourage all young people to go along to the event as it is an excellent opportunity to explore IT careers and consider whether this is the career path for you”.
The Bring I.T. On programme is designed to address the skills shortages and employability issues in the IT sector in Northern Ireland.
