Motion: Blood Donation Appointments
Council Meeting - 7th February 2023
This Council recognises the impact that the Covid-19 pandemic had on blood donations and the Northern Ireland Blood Transfusion Service. The Council also recognises that the removal of walk-in donations and the requirement to book donation appointments by phone has created an additional obstacle when donating blood.
Furthermore, the Council notes that the number of blood donations fell by a third in January 2022 and in October 2022 blood supplies were at an urgently low level.
This Council calls on the Northern Ireland Blood Transfusion Service to implement an online booking system for blood donation appointments and to give consideration to allowing walk-in donation appointments when appropriate.
