Motion: Domestic Abuse and Parental Alienation
Council - 3rd March 2020
“Fermanagh and Omagh District Council express our continued deep concern at the levels of domestic abuse within this council area.
We recognise that Domestic Abuse can take many forms.
We recognise that Parental Alienation is a form of Domestic Abuse.
We recognise that Parental Alienation is also a form of Child Abuse.
We recognise that Parental Alienation is “Substantial and sustained dissatisfaction within a caregiver-child relationship, associated with significant disturbance in functioning”, which has been coded in the World Health Organisations International Classifications of Diseases version 11.
We recognise that Fermanagh and Omagh District Council have a duty to support the protection of children affected by Parental Alienation and we will work with our statutory partners, in Health and Criminal Justice to ensure that it is dealt with appropriately.”
Proposed by: Councillor Feely, seconded by Councillor AM Donnelly and supported by Councillors Fitzgerald, Greene, P Kelly, McCann, McElduff and O’Reilly
