Motion: International Women’s Day
Environmental Services Committee - 6th March 2024
International Women’s Day International Women's Day (IWD) is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women. The day also marks a call to action for accelerating women's equality. Much has been done but there is still a way to go. International Women's Day 2024 is on March 8th and this year's campaign theme is 'Inspire Inclusion.'
To support International Women's Day Fermanagh and Omagh District Council;
- Welcomes the Economy Minister’s four key priorities. Particularly the objective of 'Good Jobs,' as IOW pay and poor working conditions disproportionately affect women and people with disabilities.
- Welcomes the 'Getting It Right First Time (GRIFT)' Report published by the Department of Health and the Health Minsters 'Women’s Health Action Plan.' Both are long overdue and have been campaigned for over many years. Council especially welcomes the recommendations in the report promoting both hospitals in our council area and in particular SWAH as a potential gynaecology elective hub.
Expresses our concerns, and will raise awareness of, the growing use of digital technology being used
- against women, as well as continuing misogyny and abuse online.
- Sends its solidarity to women throughout the world who are living in situations of war and conflict.
- Will light up Council buildings purple on the 8th March.
- Will share 'Inspire Inclusion' images across our social media using #1WD2024 #lnspirelnclusion hashtags in the lead up to March 8th.
