This Council:
Recognises the importance of the Tourism sector to our local economy;
Acknowledges that tourism is one of six areas of cooperation on the island set out in the Good Friday Agreement;
Further acknowledges the untapped potential benefit of All-Ireland Tourism to our local communities;
Realises that in 2019, the Ireland’s Hidden Heartlands marketing campaign generated €178m in revenue and 449,000 overseas tourists in the counties that it currently covers;
And calls on the Department for Economy to work with Tourism Ireland, Tourism NI and Fáilte Ireland to extend the Ireland’s Hidden Heartlands campaign into our local council area which will strengthen our Council’s future Tourism Strategy.
