Motion: Palestine
Council Meeting - 5th November 2024
This Council,
Condems the ongoing genocide in Gaza, which has so far resulted in the deaths of over 43,000 palestinians, including over 16,000 children.
Also condemns the illegal Israeli invasion of Southern Lebanon, and the attacks on UN peace keeping soldiers, including members of the Irish Defence Forces.
Calls for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza, the West Bank and Southern Lebanon, and the release of all hostages.
Also Calls for the blockade of Gaza to be lifted, and for aid organisations to be permitted to deliver humanitarian aid without any restrictions.
Further Calls for an end to arms sales and financial aid to Israel while the genocide, illegal occupation, and system of apartheid continues.
Recognises the significance of the International Court of Justice's provisional ruling of a plausible case of genocide and reiterates the call for the Irish Government to join the legal case taken by South Africa.
Calls on the Irish Government to immediately enact the Occupied Territories Bill, and the Illegal Israeli Settlements Divestment Bill.
Commends the many residents within the Fermanagh and Omagh area who have engaged in acts of solidarity with the people of Palestine, including organising vigils, protests, boycotts and fundraising for medical aid.
Stands in Solidarity with all local residents who have friends or family that are currently caught up in the violence.
And Lastly, Calls for the establishment of a durable, inclusive, and sustainable peace process that provides a pathway to peace, justice, and an independent sovereign Palestinian state in line with international law.
