Motion: Remove the threat to EE jobs in Enniskillen
Council Meeting - 9th April 2024
Fermanagh and Omagh district council resolves to write to the First Minister, Deputy First Minister, the Secretary of State and the Shadow Secretary of State to request that they use their full powers and authority to safeguard the future of EE's Enniskillen site which is vital for balanced-regional development and the economy of Fermanagh.
Without announcing its intent to close the site, the company stated that the site has no long-term strategic future and initiated a voluntary scheme for the workforce, potentially undermining any efforts to save the site and avoiding the legal requirements for a consultation with the CWU trade union.
The council resolves to express its support for the workers’ campaign led by CWU in the region to reverse the threat to jobs and endorses and calls for community attendance at the rally called by the CWU in Enniskillen to demand retention of EE's site in the town on 13 April.
