Motion: Stroke Unit at the South West Acute Hospital (SWAH)
Council - 25th July 2019
To consider the following motion to which due notice has been given:
“That this Council recognises that stroke is one of the most serious health emergencies anyone can face; notes with pride that the stroke unit at the South West Acute Hospital has long been the best performing facility in the country; is deeply concerned that of the six options being consulted on in the ongoing public discussion on reshaping stroke care across Northern Ireland, only two include the permanent retention of our local stroke unit; believes the closure or downgrading of the SWAH unit would be a retrograde step for the health and well-being of local stroke patients and therefore calls on as many local people and organisations as possible to submit a response before the consultation closes on 2nd August 2019 in order to send a message that this crucial service must be retained”.
Proposed by: Councillor Diana Armstrong, seconded by Councillor Smyth and supported by Councillor Warrington.
