Motion: Two-Child Benefit Cap
Council Meeting - 14th January 2025
This Council
Welcomes the recent publication of the Fermanagh and Omagh 10-year Anti-Poverty Strategy: Pathways out of Poverty.
Notes that roughly 1 in 4 children in Fermanagh and Omagh are living in poverty.
Recognises that children living in poverty are more likely to experience poorer outcomes in terms of physical and mental health, educational attainment, and economic opportunities in later life.
Further recognises that almost half of all children living in poverty in the North, come from families with 3 or more children.
Opposes the two-child limit policy for families claiming benefits introduced by the Tories, and kept in place by Labour, as it has increased the levels of child poverty in our society.
Therefore, calls on the British Government to scrap the two-child policy.
