Hairdressers
If you operate as a Hairdresser in Northern Ireland, you must be registered with your local District Council.
When you make an application your business will be placed on a Register and a Certificate issued. The Certificate will be accompanied by a copy of the Council’s current Byelaws. There is no approval process.

Fee
There is no fee for registering a Hairdressing business.
Will Tacit Consent Apply?
Yes. A Hairdressing Registration Certificate will be issued within 2 weeks of receipt of the application.
Failed Application Redress/Licence Holder Redress
If a registered Hairdresser is convicted of an offence in a Magistrate’s Court and the Court cancels the registration, the Hairdresser may appeal against the cancellation to the Court in which they were convicted.

Consumer Complaints
In the event of a complaint the first contact can be made with the District Council. Alternatively, if you are located in the UK, Citizens Advice Bureau will give you advice. From outside the UK contact the UK European Consumer Centre.
Other Redress
Any complaints on how a registered premises is operated should be made directly to the Environmental Health Department.

A register of Hairdressers can be provided on request.

It will not be disclosed to any third party unless law or regulation compel such disclosure or unless we have been specifically asked to do so in order to deliver a service which you have requested.
