Council Chair
Chair Councillor John McClaughry
I am delighted to hold the position of Chair of Fermanagh and Omagh District Council for 2024-2025. It is a privilege to represent the District and our residents.
I am honoured to have the opportunity to be Chair as my late father, Caldwell McClaughry, was Chair of the legacy Fermanagh District Council on six occasions between 1983 and 1993.
I have been a Councillor for the Erne North District Electoral Area (DEA) since 2019. As well as chairing the Full Council Meeting, I am currently Member of the Environmental Services and Planning Committees and the Rural Affairs Sub-Committee.
I am also a Member of various working groups including the Agricultural Liaison Group, Fermanagh and Omagh PEACEPLUS Partnership, Local Development Plan Steering Group, Northern Ireland Museums Council, Joint Working Group for Donegal County Council and Fermanagh and Omagh District Council. I am also one of the Council’s Mental Health Champions.
During my term in Office, my focus will be on working to support and boost our local economy; recognise the achievements of young people in our District and encourage them; and promote all sport across the District.
One of the privileges of being Chair is choosing a Charity to promote during the year and I have chosen the Royal National Lifeboat Institution Stations on Lough Erne – Enniskillen (at Killadeas) and Carrybridge.
I look forward to having the opportunity to visit a wide variety of places in the District and meet with residents and businesses to see at first hand all the great work that is being done to help local communities and our District.
Vice Chair Councillor Elaine Brough
I am honoured to hold the position of Vice Chair of Fermanagh and Omagh District Council for 2024-2025 and I look forward to working with and supporting the Chair.
I have been a Councillor for the Erne West District Electoral Area (DEA) since 2023. As well as being a Member of the Full Council, I am also a Member of the Environmental Services and Policy and Resources Committees and Rural Affairs Sub-Committee.

I have a keen interest in a range of areas which impact on our District and our local communities including tourism; community-led events and initiatives; Mental Health; children’s wellbeing; positive ageing; issues impacting on our elderly residents and Social Workers, District Nurses and those in healthcare who provide high quality care to all patients even though they are impacted by challenging constraints.
I look forward to having the opportunity to attend various events and meet people from across the District to help to make a positive impact.
